Comparing my Pre-amps and which pre-amp to start out with?
Hey I had a question from a forum poster to compare my different trypes of preamps in my set up. I have the Vintech X73i (Neve Clone) Metric Halo Uln-2 expanded and the Apogee Mini-me. I use all 3 devices when I record Vocals and here's how. I actually plug my Sm7 microphone into the Vintech x73i preamp then the x73i into my distressor compressor then my distressor compressor into my Mini me then my Mini me through spidif into the Uln-2 bypassing the Uln-2 pres. (Thats my lead vocal chain) …
Choosing a Vocal Micophone. Examples included!
Here's a few facts I learned over the years that can help you about choosing a microphone. First off, The mic is not the most important piece of the audio chain. Your vocal performance is the most important aspect. Also the most expenisive mic is not always the best mic. Different microphones work wonders for certain voices than others. So a $100 microphone could sound better on your voice than a $1000 microphone. Thats a fact! I have 3 microphones currently. I have the Shure sm57 - around $100 Shure …

Im not asking how to make a great pro lead vox BTW or your super secret techniques. I dont care about the plug makers name either. Just curious as I always seem to gravitate to the types. Just in general if you will" I replied with... Lately I been using the Chris lord Alge Signature vocal plugin. This plugin for Rock music is a blessing. …
Is one Audio program bettter than the other? Is Pro tools really the only Professional DAW?
There has been a lot of speculation that Pro tools is the only real professional audio program, and that you cannot make quality music with anything else. I disagree and heres why... First of all I like to say, It does not matter what you use, what matters most is that you know how to make what you have work for you. There are people making hits today strictly on a Roland vs-2400. Thats what they are comfertible using and they know how to make it work fast and efficiently to their liking. With that …
Picking an Apple iMac for a Independent music production?
Hey I was on my Favorite music forum and someone posted this... "I'm studio owner who works with mostly analog and am new to the digital game. I'm about to purchase a used iMac in the $500 range. I heard that I need to find one with a certain chip. An Intel or something? Can all iMacs run Logic? What specks should I be looking for, (RAM, HD, Processor, etc.)?" I replied with ... "Hey, I never thought I would buy an iMac of all MACS. (I was eying a Mac Pro for a while) But let me tell …
Should you Copy and Paste Chorus Sections?
I was on my favorite Music forum and saw a post saying... "I'm curious and I have been wanting to ask this one for a while. Do you guys 'copy and paste' a chorus that repeats itself two or three times or actually have a different performance of it everytime, or have a different performance of it and then pick the best one and THEN copy/paste for each one. This is based on the grounds that the chorus is exactly the same and the track was recorded to a click (like 99% of new bands DON'T like to do it …
